Background of the Study

The traditional library system in universities has evolved over the years to accommodate the changing needs of students and faculty. With the rise of digital resources and online materials, many universities have started transitioning to e-libraries. An E-library is an online system that allows students and staff to access books, journals, articles, and other academic resources digitally, making learning more accessible and flexible.

In Minna, Niger State, universities have made strides in adopting digital resources, but the lack of personalized recommendations for students remains a challenge. AI-powered book recommendation systems can enhance the usability of e-libraries by providing personalized book suggestions based on students' preferences and academic needs. This study aims to implement an AI-powered e-library system for universities in Minna, allowing students to discover relevant academic resources based on their learning habits and preferences.

Statement of the Problem

Universities in Minna face challenges related to the efficient management and utilization of their digital resources. While e-libraries have been introduced, students often struggle to find relevant books and academic materials that align with their individual learning paths. The absence of a personalized recommendation system limits the effectiveness of these digital resources. This study seeks to address this issue by implementing an AI-powered book recommendation system that tailors suggestions based on student behavior and academic interests.

Objectives of the Study

  1. To design and implement an AI-powered e-library system for universities in Minna, Niger State.

  2. To evaluate the effectiveness of the AI-powered book recommendation system in improving resource discovery and utilization.

  3. To assess the impact of personalized book recommendations on student learning outcomes and satisfaction.

Research Questions

  1. How effective is the AI-powered book recommendation system in improving the accessibility and relevance of academic resources in the e-library?

  2. What is the impact of personalized book recommendations on student engagement with the e-library system?

  3. How does the implementation of AI-based recommendations affect student satisfaction with digital library services?

Research Hypotheses

  1. The AI-powered e-library system improves students' ability to discover relevant academic resources.

  2. Personalized book recommendations increase the frequency of student interactions with the e-library system.

  3. Students using the AI-powered recommendation system report higher levels of satisfaction with the digital library services.

Significance of the Study

This study will contribute to the development of AI-driven personalized learning experiences in universities. By improving the accessibility and relevance of digital resources, it will enhance the overall learning experience for students. The results of this research will help inform the adoption of AI technologies in higher education, particularly in improving digital library systems.

Scope and Limitations of the Study

The study will focus on the design, implementation, and evaluation of an AI-powered e-library system in universities in Minna, Niger State. Limitations may include technical challenges related to system implementation, student resistance to new technologies, and data privacy concerns.
